15 minutes from Manhattan, and a short train ride from the Jersey shore, the Garden State's largest city is about as centrally located as it gets. The location of the New Jersey portion of the New York/New Jersey Port Authority, there is every kind of transportation imaginable going in and out of Newark to everywhere from Manhattan (light rail trains, New Jersey Turnpike) to New Orleans, Vermont, Chicago and Florida (Amtrak).
Conversely, many New Yorkers come to New Jersey in the Newark area to the huge complex known as the Meadowlands, to see the Giants and the Jets play in Giants Stadium. The New Jersey Devils and the New Jersey Nets play there too, and there are also theatrical events, live concerts and family events there.
In the springtime Branch Brook Park, a Frank Law Olmstead -designed park, comes alive when thousands of cherry trees burst into pale pink blossoms. There is a Cherry Blossom Festival to celebrate, and it actually features more trees than the better-known festival in the nation's capital, Washington D.C.
Located in Middlesex County, New Brunswick is located off the New Jersey Turnpike (Interstate 9), about 20 miles from the southern end of Staten Island, NY and six miles southeast of New Brunswick, home of Rutgers University, the state university of New Jersey.

There are two Amtrak stations in Newark: one is at the airport in the main terminal. Its station code is EWR, and it is on the Keystone and Regional route. The Keystone route runs from Harrisburg, PA to New York's Penn Station, and the Regional route runs from Boston to Newport News, VA. The other Newark station is located at 1 Raymond Plaza West on Market St., and its code is NWK. It is on 10 routes, which run the entire length of the Eastern Seaboard all the way to Florida, as well as to New Orleans and Chicago.

These trains connect the subway stops with the terminals at the large international airports. PATH also is the location of all information on the Newark, JFK and LaGuardia airports. Finally, there are also ferry services across the Hudson and East Rivers, and the Raritan and Lower New York Bays.
