Downtown Plaza Historic District
the center of Salisbury's business activity since its beginning, this tree-lined pedestrian area forms a picturesque open-air plaza with shops and businesses in Victorian buildings dating from the late 1800s. Now it is home to many art galleries.
Newtown Historic District
Newtown encompasses the first developed residential area of Salisbury after the fire of 1886. It includes the oldest dwelling remaining in the city, Poplar Hill Mansion, which survived the fire. This National Register property, circa 1805, is noted for the refined, carved ornamentation found in the best houses of the Federal period. Other homes in the district represent Victorian and Colonial styles as well.
Princess Anne Historic Area
founded in 1733, this was a center of 18th century society and has a wealth of historic sites. Among them are Tunstall Cottage (1733), Washington Hotel, St. Andrews Episcopal Church (1770), and the impressive Teackle Mansion (1802), the focal point of the historic district created in 1974. Located about 18 miles south of Salisbury on US 13. An annual tour of the historic sites in the ara. Old Princess Anne Days, is held in October.
