Rabun County and its county seat of Clayton and are a perfect destination for the visitor who loves outdoor recreation. The Chattooga River is close by and provides world-class whitewater rapids. Perhaps best known as the setting for the movie ""Deliverance"", the Chattooga has been awarded ""Wild and Scenic River"" status by Congress. Options for riding the river include floating in a tube through the calmer Section II or shooting the rapids with a licensed guide on Section IV. A paddling options with a little less intensity but just as much scenery is the upper Tallulah River above Lake Burton. For other water sports, head to Burton, Rabun, Seed, Tallulah and Tugaloo Lakes, where skiing, fishing and swimming are favorite activities. Trout fishing is excellent in this area, and there are boat rentals available. On dry land, Clayton and Raburn don't disappoint either. Many excellent hiking trails cross the countryside, including the Chattooga River Trail, voted one of the top ten river trails in the country. Other well-known trails in the country include the Bartram Trail, said to approximate the 1770s wanderings of the naturalist, William Bartram, part of the Appalachian Trail, and portions of the Foothills Trail. There is a trail to Georgia's second-highest point, Rabun Bald, and trails to several area waterfalls, including Angel Falls, Becky's Branch Falls, Dicks Creek Falls, Holcomb Creek Falls, Martin Creek Falls, Minnehaha Falls, Panther Falls and Sawcreek Falls.
